The Republican National Convention  will be the biggest show this week. Cable news plans long hours while the broadcast networks  will devote the 10 p.m. hour Tuesday through Thursday.

If you don’t want politics, your alternatives include:

***”Stars Earn Stripes” continues at 9 p.m. Monday on NBC. Last week, Tom Stroup of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office demonstrated his leadership by coaching Nick Lachey to the next round. Gen. Wesley Clark, the show’s host, praised their teamwork.  How will Stroup and Lachey perform this week?

***On “Major Crimes,” Rusty learns unsettling truths about his mom after Raydor (Mary McDonnell) keeps digging. The TNT drama airs at 9 p.m. Monday. A new “Perception” with guest stars Tom Sizemore and Edward Furlong follows at 10. TNT renewed “Perception” last week.

***”America’s Got Talent” serves up two hours of performances at 8 p.m. Tuesday on NBC. The results will be announced at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

***”So You Think You Can Dance” continues at 8 p.m. Wednesday on Fox, and there’s a local angle here, too. Tiffany Maher, a University of Central Florida junior, is one of the Top Eight finalists.

***Zach Braff plays a womanizing tennis player on “The Exes” at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on TV Land. Braff will be reunited with “Scrubs” co-star Donald Faison.
